About Rico Sequeira
1954: Born in Portugal and studied in Luxembourge, and the USA. The contact with other artists was always a constant, the names of António Winter, João Vieira, João Botelho and Malangatana stand out.
1982 : He began to exhibit his works in several countries, including Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, Brazil and Argentina. He has also exhibited at International Art Fairs and Salons, such as ARCO, FAC, Estampa or Grands et Jeunes.
He was a professional musician but ended up dedicating himself to painting. “Retirou-se” to the Prado Museum, in Madrid, where he spent his days drawing the works of Goya. This marked him forever in the way he looked.
He collects, among other things, original comics that are part of several of his projects, such as the one by Tavira. He uses originals from other artists.
His work essentially focuses on painting and drawing, two techniques that often clash, although sometimes they manage to reconcile, when they really manage to blur and blend, one into the other, within the same work.
His stroke is gestural and creates a plastic effect of randomness, however, it is the result of a summary of gestures that already contain the thought.
He often uses mixed techniques with collages. These are the bridge between painting and comic book originality.
2016 : His most recent painting/sculpture exhibition took place at the Regional Museum of Beja, “Why big when you can do small”.
