About Nikias Skapinakis
1931 : Born in Lisbon, of Greek descent.
1941 : He began to exhibit at the General Exhibitions of Visual Arts and, since then, he has held numerous individual exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions, in Portugal and abroad.
1958 : In addition to oil painting (his main activity), he devoted himself to lithography, serigraphy illustration of books. Among other works, he illustrated “When the Wolves Howled”, de Aquilino Ribeiro _(Bertrand-95c-03), “Holland Progress”, de Vitorino Nemésio (Imprensa Nacional,1983).
1963 : Obtained the Malhoa Scholarship from Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes.
1968 : Executed lithographs for the Congress of Psychoanalysis of Romance Languages.
1969 : Developed lithographs on the fiftieth anniversary of Banco Português do Atlântico.
1971 : Author of one of the panels of the café A Brasileira do Chiado
1973 : Made serigraphs for the Kompass Gallery.
1974 : Participated in the execution of the commemorative panel on June 10, 1974.
1976 : A research grant is awarded by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
1985 : At the Centro de Arte Moderna da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian presents an anthological exhibition of his paintings, complete with a retrospective of his graphic work and gouaches in Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes, in the same year.
1990 : He was awarded the Aica/Sec prize, established by the International Association of Art Critics and the Secretary of State for Culture.
1993 : Presented an anthology of drawings made between 1985 and 1993 at Palácio Galveias (Lisbon City Council).
1996 : The Museu do Chiado organized the exhibition entitled "For the Study of Melancholy in Portugal, Retrospective of Portraits, 1955-1974".
2000 : The Museum of Contemporary Art da Fundação de Serralves, presented the anthological exhibition "Prospectiva 1966-2000".
2005 : He was awarded the Grand Prix Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, established by the Amarante City Council, and he made a panel in ceramic for the Metropolitan of Lisbon.
2006 : A Fundação Árpád Szenes-Vieira da Silva Fundação Árpád Szenes-Vieira da Silva presented the series of paintings in bedrooms and studios Imaginaries of several painters and poets and was awarded the Casino da Póvoa Art Prize
2007 : "Nikias Skapinakis: O Teatro dos Outros", a documentary directed by Jorge Silva Melo set of your work.
2009 : He held the exhibition "Drawing in black and white and in color" at the Cascais Cultural Center, covering his graphic work between 1958 and 2009. He also made the painting "Landscape-Portuguese Flag" allusive to the National Flag and integrated in the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Republic.
2012 : The Berardo Collection Museum presented the anthological exhibition "Present and Past, 2012-1950".
2020 : He died on August 26, 2020, in Lisbon.
