About José Pinicheiro
1921: born in the Beira village of Candosa, Tábua, having spent the rest of his youth in Figueira da Foz. He passed away on March 15, 2014.
He began his artistic career as a caricaturist and illustrator. Creator of an original plastic expression, which he calls “Volume Caricature”, began its cycle of exhibitions in this modality in 1948.
Heading to the north of the country, he developed his activity in the field of creative advertising and decoration. As a decorator, he was present in the design and design of stands and pavilions at various national and international fairs and exhibitions. He is the author of several panels and murals throughout the country and founder of the “Aveiro/Arte” Plastic Arts Circle.
Between 1958 and 1968 he traveled across Europe, having the opportunity to visit museums and galleries in important cities such as Madrid, Paris, Zurich and Munich. At the end of the seventies, he returned to the central region and dedicated himself exclusively to painting.
With an enviable CV, he was an artist of consolidated prestige who did not need anything or anyone to assert himself, having wide representation in private collections around the world and in national museums.
Zé Penicheiro, recognized for his unique way of treating and combining geometric shapes, reflected Portuguese habits and traditions in his works, from fado to the relevance of the sea, including the historical figures of our country. He was inspired by the landscapes, with all the blue of the estuary and the sky, of the cities where he lived.
